Healthcare personnel influenza vaccination is more than a reporting requirement; it is an important strategy for protecting staff, patients, and communities during flu season. Yet achieving and sustaining high vaccination rates can require more than simply making the vaccine available.

During this session, participants will take a practical look at the MBQIP healthcare personnel influenza vaccination measure, including measure specifications and reporting expectations. A Critical Access Hospital pharmacist will review available influenza vaccine options and considerations that may help hospitals address employee questions and concerns. Finally, a high-performing Iowa CAH will share the culture, strategies, and practices that have helped its organization achieve exceptional employee vaccination rates.

Participants will leave with a better understanding of the measure and practical ideas they can adapt within their own organizations to strengthen employee engagement and improve vaccination performance.

Quality improvement professionals, infection preventionists, employee/occupational health staff, nursing leaders, pharmacists, human resources professionals, and hospital leaders
  • Describe the specifications, reporting requirements, and key components of the MBQIP healthcare personnel influenza vaccination measure.
  • Compare influenza vaccine options and identify considerations that can support informed conversations with healthcare personnel about vaccination.
  • Identify organizational strategies, communication approaches, and cultural practices to increase healthcare personnel influenza vaccination rates.
